Warning Signs

Signs You Need a New Roof

Not sure if it's time for a new roof? Here are the most common signs that Atlanta homeowners should watch for. If any of these sound familiar, give us a call at (404) 797-8115 for a free inspection.

Your Roof is 20+ Years Old

Most asphalt shingle roofs in Atlanta last 20-25 years. If your roof is getting up there in age, it's time to start planning for a replacement—even if it looks okay from the ground.

Shingles are Curling or Buckling

When shingles start to curl up at the edges or buckle in the middle, they can no longer protect your home properly. This usually means the shingles have reached the end of their life.

You Keep Needing Repairs

If you've had your roofer out multiple times in the past few years, those repair costs add up. At some point, a new roof is actually cheaper than continuing to patch the old one.

Missing Shingles After Storms

Georgia storms can be rough on roofs. If you're losing shingles every time a big storm rolls through, your roof isn't holding up like it should anymore.

Granules in Your Gutters

Those little gravel-like pieces in your gutters? They're granules from your shingles. Some loss is normal, but if you're seeing a lot of them, your shingles are wearing out.

Daylight Through the Roof Boards

If you go into your attic and see light coming through the roof boards, that's a serious problem. Water can get in wherever light can, so this needs immediate attention.

Premium Roofing Materials We Install

We're picky about what we put on your roof. That's why we only install shingles from Atlas, Owens Corning, and GAF. These brands have proven themselves in Georgia's hot summers, heavy rains, and occasional hail storms.

Atlas Shingles

Atlas makes high-performance shingles with built-in Scotchgard protector. This special coating fights algae growth, which is a big deal here in Georgia where the humidity can turn roofs black and streaky. Atlas shingles keep their color longer and look better for years.

  • Scotchgard algae protection built in
  • Class 4 impact rating available for hail resistance
  • Limited lifetime warranty on materials
  • Wide range of colors from classic to modern

Great choice for homeowners worried about algae stains or living in areas with frequent hail storms.

Owens Corning Shingles

Owens Corning is known for the pink panther, but they're also one of the most trusted names in roofing. Their shingles use SureNail technology, which gives them extra grip and makes them more wind resistant. They also offer some of the best color options in the business.

  • SureNail technology for better wind resistance
  • TruDefinition colors for rich, dimensional look
  • Platinum Protection warranty available
  • Energy Star rated options

Perfect for homeowners who want lots of color choices and extra wind protection during Georgia storms.

GAF Shingles

GAF is America's most popular roofing brand, and there's a good reason for that. They've been making shingles for over 130 years. Their LayerLock technology keeps shingles sealed tight, and their Advanced Protection line can handle whatever Atlanta weather throws at it.

  • LayerLock technology for secure seal
  • Advanced Protection weather resistance
  • Golden Pledge warranty option (best in industry)
  • Timberline HDZ with 130 mph wind rating

Ideal for homeowners who want a brand with a long track record and the strongest warranty options.

Installation Day

What to Expect on Installation Day

We know having work done on your home can feel stressful. Here's exactly what happens when our crew shows up to install your new roof.

Early Morning Arrival (7:00-8:00 AM)

Our crew typically arrives between 7 and 8 in the morning. We'll bring all the materials and equipment needed for the job. You don't need to be home, but if you are, we'll touch base with you before we start.

It Gets Loud

Fair warning—tearing off a roof is noisy work. There's going to be banging, scraping, and the sound of shingles sliding into dumpsters. If you work from home, you might want to plan around this. Most of the loud work happens in the first few hours.

Protecting Your Property

Before we start, we put tarps over bushes, flower beds, and air conditioning units near the house. We also set up our dumpster in a spot that won't damage your driveway (we use boards underneath if needed).

End of Day Cleanup (Usually 5:00-6:00 PM)

By late afternoon, most roofs are completely finished. We clean up the entire property, run magnetic rollers across your yard and driveway to pick up nails, and do a final inspection. We'll walk you through the completed work and answer any questions.

Our Roof Installation Process

From your first phone call to the final nail, here's the step-by-step process for getting a new roof from First Response Home Services.

1

Free Estimate & Planning

We start by coming to your home to measure your roof and look at its current condition. We'll talk about what you're looking for, show you shingle samples, and answer all your questions. Then we give you a clear, written quote with no hidden fees or surprise charges. Most estimates take about 30 minutes.

2

Material Selection & Scheduling

Once you decide to move forward, we'll help you pick the perfect shingles for your home. We'll show you color samples and help you choose something that matches your house and neighborhood. Then we schedule your installation for a day that works for you. We order materials ahead of time so everything is ready to go.

3

Preparation & Tear-Off

On installation day, our crew arrives early and gets to work. We put tarps around your home to protect your landscaping and catch debris. Then we tear off all the old shingles down to the wood deck underneath. We check every inch of the deck for rot, soft spots, or damage. If we find any problems, we fix them before moving on.

4

Installation

This is where the magic happens. We install a waterproof underlayment over the entire roof deck. Then we add drip edge along all the edges, ice and water shield in valleys and around penetrations, and proper flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights. Finally, we lay your new shingles following the exact specs from the manufacturer.

5

Cleanup & Final Inspection

When the last shingle is in place, the job isn't over. We do a thorough cleanup of your entire property. We use magnetic rollers to pick up every nail from your yard and driveway. Then we do a final walk-through inspection to make sure everything looks perfect. We don't leave until you're completely happy with the work.

Pricing

What Affects Your Roof Installation Cost?

Every roof is different, so prices vary from home to home. Here are the main things that affect how much your new roof will cost in the Atlanta area.

Roof Size

Roofing is priced by the square (100 square feet). A bigger roof means more materials and more labor, so the total cost goes up. Most Atlanta homes are between 15 and 35 squares.

Roof Pitch (Steepness)

Steeper roofs are harder and more dangerous to work on. If your roof has a steep pitch, it takes longer to install and requires extra safety equipment, which affects the price.

Layers to Remove

If your home has two or three layers of old shingles, we have to tear all of them off. More layers means more labor and more disposal costs. Some older Atlanta homes have multiple layers.

Shingle Type & Brand

Basic 3-tab shingles cost less than architectural shingles. Premium designer shingles cost more but last longer and look better. The brand you choose also affects the price.

Deck Repairs

We won't know the exact condition of your roof deck until we tear off the old shingles. If there's rotted wood or water damage underneath, we'll need to replace those boards.

Extra Features

Things like skylights, chimneys, and multiple roof valleys make installation more complex. These areas need extra flashing and careful attention, which takes more time.

Financing Options Available

A new roof is a big investment. That's why we offer flexible financing options to help make it work for your budget. Ask about our payment plans when you get your free estimate. We'll help you find a solution that fits your needs.
