Signs to watch for

When it's time to call about roof inspection

  • A ceiling stain or attic moisture. Water is getting in somewhere, even if the source isn’t obvious.
  • A recent storm. Wind and hail damage is often hard to see from the ground.
  • Granules in the gutters. Shingles shed granules as they age.
  • Another contractor says you need a new roof. A second look can confirm it or show a smaller fix.
  • You’re buying or selling a home. Knowing the roof’s condition helps everyone plan.

Chase is exceptional! He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. He came out to inspect damage to my mom’s home after a large oak tree that fell on it during a recent storm. My mom used another company to place a tarp on the house and that was a mistake. They tried to charge her $1,600 (after she was quoted $500 on the phone) for an inadequate and rushed job (they spent about 40 minutes total to perform their inspection and place the tarp and were annoyed when I asked for them to get back on the roof to blow off some of the tree debris they were going to leave). Working with Chase is a breath of fresh air. He is very caring and genuinely wants to help people. He did not have to do this, but he took time out of his busy day to help us fix the tarp that was not put on right while he was on the roof inspecting all the damage. He also inspected the damage from inside the attic, something the other company that placed the tarp did not care to do. He spent almost 3 hours with us and really appreciated that he wants to help us navigate this difficult situation. He performed a very thorough inspection, took detailed photos of all the damage, clearly explained all his findings, and was very easy to communicate with. I am extremely grateful I found him. It is hard to find good people like Chase. I also love that Chase owns this local and independent business that is not affiliated with a greedy corporation. I highly recommend First Response Home Services and am so thankful for everything Chase did for us!

I cannot recommend First Response Home Services enough! After dealing with a stressful water leak that my HOA’s contractors supposedly fixed, I was woken up in the middle of a storm by water pouring in from the exact same spot. I called First Response Home Services, and the owner, Chase, came out promptly to inspect our roof. Chase conducted a thorough, meticulous inspection to pinpoint the source of the leak, assess the existing damage, and catch other potential vulnerabilities before they could turn into costly headaches. His professionalism, honesty, and attention to detail gave me immediate peace of mind after a very frustrating experience with prior repairs. If you need a reliable, knowledgeable team that gets the job done right the first time, call Chase at First Response Home Services! Five stars all the way.

The more I’ve gotten to know Chase, the more I appreciate how much heart he puts into First Response Home Services. When it comes to roofing and gutters, he cares about helping people make the right decision for their home. If a repair will take care of the problem and a roof replacement can wait, he’ll tell you that. He thinks about things from his customers’ perspective and follows through on what he says he’ll do. Chase has a big heart and strong values, and they show in the way he treats people and serves his community.

Questions about roof inspection?

We'll come take a look, show you photos of what we find and explain your options before any work starts.

What to expect

Documented start to finish

You may not need to be home. If the exterior is safely accessible and you've given permission, we can often inspect while you're away. If there's a ceiling stain or attic moisture, we may need inside access to trace it. Afterward, we'll go over the photos with you and recommend repair, replacement or simply keeping an eye on it.

How do I know if I need a repair or a new roof?

Start with an inspection. Two roofs of the same age can need different things. Shingle condition, flashing, ventilation, decking, earlier repairs and how widespread the damage is all affect the answer.

We photograph what we find and explain whether a repair, a replacement or simply keeping an eye on it makes the most sense.

Do I need to be home for a roof inspection?

Not necessarily. If the exterior is safely accessible and you’ve given permission, we may be able to inspect the roof while you’re away.

If you’ve noticed a ceiling stain or moisture in the attic, we may need inside access to trace the problem. We’ll talk through what’s needed before the appointment.

Can wind damage my roof even if no shingles are missing?

Yes. After strong wind, lifted edges, broken seals, displaced flashing and damage around roof openings can be hard to see from the ground.

Photograph anything unusual, note when the storm happened and stay off the roof. We can inspect and document the condition, then explain whether it points to repair, monitoring or ordinary wear.

What is a chimney pan, and why does it matter?

The top of a framed chimney is protected by a metal chimney pan, also called a chase cover. Because it’s hard to see from the ground, rust, separated seams or poor drainage can go unnoticed until water shows up inside.

We check chimney pans during roof inspections and can repair or replace them.

How often should a roof be inspected?

Once every year or two is a good rhythm for most homes, and again after any major storm. Older roofs and roofs with past leaks are worth checking more often.

Is a roof inspection useful when buying or selling a home?

Yes. Knowing the roof’s condition helps buyers and sellers plan, and photos make it easier to talk through with agents. We’ll explain what we see in plain English and note anything that can safely wait.
